Today, the Berkshire Wind Power Project is the second largest onshore wind farm operating in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Consisting of ten 1.5-megawatt turbines, Berkshire Wind is capable of producing enough electricity to power 6,000 homes while offsetting the production of nearly 612,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide and the use of 1.7 million barrels of oil.
Before calling on Ventry Associates, the project had been stymied for almost 10 years. Among the most prominent issues was an abutting property owner who threatened multiple lawsuits to prevent the project from going forward. Ventry was able to bring state officials’ power to bear to break the logjam. Utilizing its extensive background in energy and siting, Ventry worked with state officials to help negotiate a compromise that allowed the project to go forward and bring the Commonwealth its largest and most visible renewable energy success story.
